Riding the Arthurs Seat Eagle

After an absence of quite a few years there is a new chairlift service running from Dromana up to the top of Arthurs Seat. The new gondolas have been imported from Europe. Each night they are stored at the base station.

During the day they are brought out and put into action.

We recently had our first trip on the Eagle as it is known. We left from the base station but if you drive up to Arthurs Seat you can also easily leave from there.

On the upwards journey the views across Dromana and Safety Beach towards Mt Martha were excellent.

Unfortunately the sky in the direction of Melbourne was a bit hazy. On a clear day you could reasonably expect to see Melbourne at the top of Port Phillip Bay. At a couple of points we crossed over the road below.

Each gondola seats eight, four on each side. It is recommended that passengers stay seated but I must admit if you wish to take photos, at times you need to stand very gently.

At the top you can take one of many walking tracks or enjoy a drink or a snack at the kiosk

as you take in the action as the gondolas come up and then return down.
