When we visited Barcelona previously in 2015 we realised we had missed out on seeing a number of things. One of them was Montjuic, a hilly area above the city to the south west. So after a hectic morning at La Mercè we took the metro to Paral-lel and then took the funicular up the last bit. After eating our picnic lunch we walked to the 1992 Olympic venues area. You can see the Olympic cauldron, the main stadium and other venues in the Olympic precinct.
Next we crossed over over the road and visited the small botanic gardens. Whilst taking a well earned rest on a seat we were lucky enough to observe some green lorikeets.
The nearby Museum of Catalunya Art is an impressive building.
Next we took in the views below it down to the ‘magic fountain’.
The following evening we would see it on television with an impressive display for the finale of La Mercè Festival. As we walked around we had an awesome overview of the city below. We could easily pick out La Sagrada Familia, Barcelona’s famous incomplete cathedral.
By now we were tired so back down in the funicular to the metro we went. From there we returned to our hotel before heading out to dinner. Last time Karen missed out on eating at El Born’s Vegetalia so we walked there and soon had a table. The food was beautifully presented and delicious and the service attentive. Whilst waiting for our food I enjoyed a refreshing beer.
We shared a delicious variation on a Waldorf salad to start with then Karen ate mushroom fajita
and I had a three grain asparagus and mushroom risotto.
After eating we walked back to Plaça de St Jaume for a Sound and Light presentation for La Mercè. The music was great but sadly the actual footage was underwhelming.
Back at our hotel Chic and Basic Zoo we were soon zzzzzing.
